MEET THE ADVISOR
Daniel Sokol is a fractional risk consultant and emergency-planning subject matter expert who helps small businesses identify the vulnerabilities most owners never have time to see. A disabled U.S. Navy veteran with more than 20 years of combined experience in emergency planning, physical security, leadership, and safety management, he translates enterprise and military preparedness into practical protection for local organizations.
Dan evaluates more than what is happening inside a company’s walls. He examines neighboring properties, environmental exposure, operational dependencies, regulatory requirements, leadership continuity, and the small procedural gaps that can align into a serious event. His work may include business-continuity and succession plans, OSHA and EPA assessments, physical-security analysis, employee preparedness, and commercial drone-based hazard mapping.
His approach is direct and usable. Dan does not believe a company needs a perfect plan or a giant manual. It needs a plan people understand, safeguards they will follow, and vulnerabilities that are corrected before the stakes become irreversible.
It’s not the odds. It’s the stakes.

AREAS OF EXPERTISE
THREAT & VULNERABILITY ASSESSMENT
Identifies internal, neighboring, environmental, and systemic risks before small failures align.
BUSINESS CONTINUITY PLANNING
Builds usable response, recovery, and succession plans that keep essential operations moving.
OSHA & EPA COMPLIANCE
Converts regulatory requirements into specific operating safeguards leaders can understand and implement.
UAS HAZARD MAPPING
Uses aerial, thermal, and near-IR imagery to reveal hard-to-see physical and environmental risks.
IMPACT INITIATIVES
Dan turns risk management into decisions a small business can actually execute. He maps internal, external, environmental, and leadership vulnerabilities; builds practical continuity and succession plans; and embeds applicable safety requirements directly into the operating framework. The result is not a binder on a shelf—it is a clearer, safer organization prepared to protect its people, preserve operations, and recover when conditions change.
TACTICAL TIMING
Your emergency plan exists, but no one has trained or tested it.
Insurance is being treated as the entire business-continuity strategy.
Growth has introduced chemicals, equipment, employees, or locations without a fresh risk review.
A founder or key executive holds critical access, knowledge, and authority alone.
Hurricane, fire, flood, cyber, or neighboring-property risks could interrupt operations tomorrow.
RECENT RESULTS
THE SITUATION
A local service company was storing reactive cleaning chemicals beside bleach, while its fire extinguisher was mounted behind the same hazardous area. A routine storage decision had created the conditions for a toxic fire, blocked emergency response, and significant liability.
THE WORK
Dan assessed the workspace, identified the chemical interaction and blocked emergency equipment, and translated the applicable EPA and OSHA requirements into the company’s continuity plan. Rather than simply flagging the issue, he created a documented obligation to relocate materials, preserve access to safety equipment, and correct the underlying operating practice.
The documented requirements created a clear, enforceable path to correction. The company addressed the chemical-storage and emergency-access vulnerabilities, reducing exposure to employee injury, environmental consequences, insurance disputes, and potential negligence claims.

FEATURED INSIGHT
BEHIND THE BIO
My Navy service shaped how I see risk. I learned to think like an adversary, identify what others overlook, and understand how several small failures can align into a catastrophic event. Deployments, shipboard security, hazardous-material operations, and contingency planning taught me that preparation is not paperwork—it is a responsibility to the people depending on you. That experience still guides my work: anticipate what could happen, create a usable plan, and make sure the safeguards actually work.
My education at Embry-Riddle and my work throughout Volusia County gave me a strong connection to this community. What keeps me invested is the way local businesses depend on one another. We are all ducks in the same pond: when one company is disrupted, employees, vendors, customers, and neighboring businesses feel the ripple. Through Grey Falcon Consulting, C.R.E.D.I.T., and Volusia COAD partnerships, I can help keep that pond steadier for everyone.
They discover that I am direct, thorough, and far more practical than the subject matter might suggest. I will identify uncomfortable vulnerabilities, but I will not bury a leader in fear or hand over a massive binder no one will use. I explain risk through real examples, translate requirements into clear action, and stay focused on what will actually protect the organization. I am not there merely to document a problem—I want to make sure it gets fixed.
Chess, diving, and service all reinforce the same lesson for me: preparation creates options. Chess trains me to think several moves ahead. Diving demands respect for systems, equipment, and changing conditions. Community service keeps the work grounded in people rather than theory. Those interests influence how I advise leaders—I look beyond the immediate problem, consider what could happen next, and build practical safeguards before the stakes become real.
